~I'm Maple, I’m currently in Park Slope, Brooklyn 🫶 and this is a weekly deal where my friends and I suggest all kinds of things you should try~
Going to Colorado tomorrow, please send me spots to go in Denver?!
Recs this week:
1. Pocketguard. I’m actually budgeting now because of this app? Should have started doing this eons ago…
2. Laughing at yourself. How do you even authentically get to this stage of being? I have no idea, pretty sure in my case it’s been the therapy — but I recently got my South Carolina drivers license replaced with a New York one and my new picture is HORRIBLE!! A few years ago, maybe even a year ago, this would have destroyed me. I would have assumed that picture represented what I look like at every single moment of every single day… I probably would have sunk into a minor depression for a few hours. Pathetic! But true! This time, I giggled forever and showed it to the first friend I saw that day. Is this a byproduct of simply getting older and subtly reevaluating the importance of everything? I don’t know! But I’m thrilled to be here!
(If you want a license photo reveal, take me to dinner first.)
3. Antica Pesa. My amazing neighbor and I have dinner together once a month, and we ate at this place last night. Noa (neighbor) knows one of the owners like a brother (seeing them greet each other was such a treat in itself), but connection or not, this place was divine. It’s Italian (I guess I’m on a kick), it won a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence this year, it’s cute as hell. BEST TIRAMISU. And now I’m this close to buying the pasta maker attachment for my stand mixer…
4. This New Yorker article about sleep twitches and dreaming which was fascinating, and I find myself thinking about my brain learning from my body all the time now.
5. Shamelessly, the essay I published this week.
I love you all endlessly. Until next time,
